The ACHS International Quality Improvement Awards for 2026 are now open for submission!

The QI Awards are an annual recognition of achievement and encouragement for quality improvement activities, programs or strategies that have been implemented into healthcare organisations.


About QI Awards

The ACHS International QI Awards acknowledge healthcare organisations that achieve excellence and innovation in clinical care, organisation-wide practice, sustainability, service delivery and performance measurement. The QI Awards provide ACHSI program members with the opportunity to share patient-focused innovation and communicate their quality improvement achievements.

There are three (3) QI Award categories:

Clinical Excellence and Patient Safety

The Clinical Excellence and Patient Safety Award recognises innovation and demonstrated quality improvement in the delivery of safe, effective consumer / patient care. This award typically acknowledges the exceptional contribution of teams or individuals who show commitment to achieving the delivery of high-quality care and/or innovation to patients and to the continuous improvement of healthcare.

Previous winning submissions in this category have included:

  • Improving Preterm Infant Care through Early and Continuous Kangaroo Mother Care in Neonates ≥30 Weeks at Hung Vuong Hospital
  • Integrated modern hybrid healthcare model – to achieve access to primary care and evidence-based healthcare services
  • The implementation of a system to better manage dialysis access

Sustainable Healthcare and Service Delivery

*This category was previously named ‘Non-Clinical Service Delivery’.

The Sustainable Healthcare and Service Delivery Award acknowledges a demonstrated outcome in both clinical and non-clinical service delivery, improvement and innovation in sustainable healthcare and environmental sustainability. It also recognises demonstrated outcomes in non-clinical service delivery, improvement and innovation to patient / consumer services and organisation-wide practice including services provided by community and allied health.

Previous winning submissions in this category have included:

  • Sustainable Healthcare: Integrating Innovation, Care, and Environmental Responsibility
  • Harnessing Byproduct Water: Advancing Sustainable Water Management in Local Community
  • Paediatric Dental Pretend Play – An Innovative approach for reducing children’s anxiety toward dental appointments

Healthcare Measurement

This category recognises organisations which have measured an aspect of clinical management and/or outcome of care, taken appropriate action in response to that measurement, and demonstrated improved consumer / patient care and organisational performance upon further measurement. Healthcare measurement can include data collected from the ACHSI Clinical Indicator program or other methods of monitoring consumer / patient care processes or outcomes. Both quantitative and qualitative data can be used, however this category must describe the initial measurement, the analysis of that measurement, the action(s) implemented, and the improved measurement(s)..

Previous winning submissions in this category have included:

  • Improving Safety, Quality and Efficiency of Care Through Development of a Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMS)
  • Incidence of Metabolic bone Disease after implementation of Bone Protective Nutritional Strategies – a prospective cohort study
  • Taking staff influenza vaccination rates to a record level

Who is eligible to enter?

  • Entry is open to all current Members of the ACHS International.
  • The ACHSI QI Awards are open to private and public organisations, large and small healthcare facilities internationally.
  • Projects that have been entered in other awards are eligible to be entered in the ACHSI QI Awards 2026.
  • Your application MUST relate to a quality improvement activity that has been implemented within the last two (2) years, at your organisation.
  • All entrants agree to the publication and distribution of their submission(s) by ACHSI.
