ACHS International Medal Winner 2026
We are pleased to announce the winner of the prestigious ACHS International Medal 2026.
The ACHS International Medal honours individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to improving the quality and safety of international healthcare services in a way that is consistent with ACHS International’s mission and values.
The ACHS International (ACHSI) Medal 2026 has been awarded to Mr Jacob Oommen, Chief Operating Officer of the Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals, Oman, for his outstanding leadership and sustained contribution to healthcare quality, patient safety, and operational excellence across Oman’s largest private healthcare provider.
Mr Oommen has led the rollout of digital quality management systems and standardised governance frameworks across geographically dispersed services. These initiatives have strengthened incident reporting, performance monitoring, executive oversight, transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement across clinical and operational areas.
His contribution extends beyond his organisation through active involvement with international quality bodies, including the International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua) and CAHO, where he supports knowledge exchange and the advancement of healthcare quality practices across the region.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he provided decisive leadership across a multi-site healthcare system, maintaining essential services while supporting large-scale vaccination and public health responses. His coordination across facilities helped sustain service delivery and workforce stability under significant pressure.
Mr Oommen has also prioritised workforce capability, leading structured education and training initiatives for more than 1,500 staff. These programs have embedded quality improvement practices and strengthen long-term organisational capability.
Respected by peers and colleagues, he is recognised as a committed advocate for quality improvement, demonstrating integrity, strategic insight, and a results-focused approach to healthcare excellence across a large, multi-site system.
