Meet Adrew Cullinane – International Coordinator

Welcome to our Staff Spotlight where we introduce our team who work to support ACHS International Members.

In this edition, we meet Andrew Cullinane, who joined ACHS International as International Coordinator. Andrew plays a key role in supporting Members and assessors internationally, helping to ensure assessments are well-coordinated, seamless, and focused on delivering meaningful outcomes for healthcare organisations.

Can you tell us a bit about your role as International Coordinator at ACHSI and what drew you to working in global healthcare?
In my role as International Coordinator at ACHSI, I support organisations and assessors across the Middle East and the Asia–Pacific region, ensuring that assessments run smoothly from planning through to completion. I enjoy working closely with both clients and assessors to keep everything well-coordinated and on track. I was drawn to global healthcare because it’s a field where the work genuinely makes a difference.

Your role supports members across the Middle East and Asia Pacific region. Can you walk us though what a typical day looks like for you?
A typical day in my role is quite varied, and flexibility is essential when working with Members across both the Middle East and Asia–Pacific regions where time zones can differ greatly. Most days involve supporting organisations and assessors during assessments, often over Zoom, helping to ensure everything runs smoothly. I also coordinate upcoming assessments, provide access to our Member resources, and assist clients and assessors in whatever way I can. No two days are the same, but the focus is always on making the process as seamless and supportive for Members as possible.

What’s something unique you’ve learned from supporting healthcare organisations across different countries and cultures?
Something unique I’ve learned is that every country and culture approach healthcare a little differently, but everyone shares the same goal of providing safe, quality care. It’s also shown me how much we can learn from each other, even when our systems and ways of working are not the same.

What comes to mind when you think of healthcare quality improvement?
When I think of healthcare quality improvement, I think it means doing things consistently and being open to learning and improving patient care.

What healthcare topic interests you most?
I’m most interested in patient safety and improving the quality of care. I enjoy seeing how small changes in processes or systems can make a big difference for patients and staff.

How do you practice self-care and maintain work-life balance?
I make the most of my mornings to set myself up for the day, whether it’s a swim, walk, or gym session. Since I work with clients across different time zones, using this time helps me maintain a healthy work-life balance and start the day energised. (A morning coffee is also a non-negotiable).

Thank you, Andrew, for sharing your insights and experience with us. We look forward to bringing you further Staff Spotlight articles in the future and showcasing the incredible talent that we foster at ACHSI.
