Discover how one of our Member organisations has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to delivering high-quality and safe care, surpassing expectations.

We had the pleasure of speaking to Mouwasat Medical Services CEO, Mr. Nasser Sultan Al Subaie, to learn about the patient-centric approach embraced by the Mouwasat Group and their remarkable journey of growth and commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services across Saudi Arabia.

1. Tell me a little bit about Mouwasat Group
The Mouwasat Group takes on a patient-first philosophy. Our vision and mission are focused on the patient, with their interests at the top of our priorities. We strive to provide a seamless patient experience starting from the beginning of their treatment journey to complete recovery. We take every step seriously, from the small details of receiving visitors, waiting rooms, and surrounding views, to patient rooms, cooking facilities, operating theatres, equipment, and the recruitment of competencies for various specialties.

Since its inception in 1974, Mouwasat has embarked on an impressive journey of strategic growth, expanding from our first hospital in Dammam to a robust network of seven (7) hospitals across Saudi Arabia. Through our unwavering commitment to providing accessible, high-quality healthcare across the Kingdom, we have established our position as a leader in the healthcare sector dedicated to meeting the ever-evolving healthcare needs of Saudi Arabia’s population.

Building on our current footprint of over 1200 beds and 580 clinics in our seven (7) operational hospitals, we are investing in growth with three projects currently in progress, which will substantially increase capacity to serve a diverse patient base, adhering to its vision of evolving patient care through state-of-the-art facilities and a dedicated team of healthcare professionals.

2. How many staff do you have working there, and how many clients?

The Mouwasat Group has 4,238 staff members. In 2023, the hospital had 2.3 million outpatient visits and 80,799 admissions.

3. What was the process like preparing for the Dialysis Centre of Excellence?

We started self-assessment and gap-analysis with ACHSI for all Mouwasat Hospitals Haemodialysis Centres according to EQuiP 7 Standards. We continue to monitor and evaluate our performance through benchmarking.

4. How was the experience? Was there anything in particular you learnt?

Our experience with ACHSI has been amazing. We work together as partners to enhance patient engagement and person- centred care. We are drawn to ACHSI’s approach on quality and safety standards, prioritising not just the structural aspects, but also the underlying processes. They train our staff with case studies and examples of high-risk scenarios. I personally thought the Safe Environment Standards were exceptional.

5. How did you regard what the Quality Partner brought to your team and organisation?

Ever since commencing our partnership with ACHSI, we have embraced all requirements aimed at enhancing our services and overall quality. Our esteemed Quality Partners have not only imparted invaluable understanding, knowledge, and skills but have also provided invaluable assistance in interpreting standards. Thiseir support during our self-assessment and gap analysis wasere delivered with utmost respect and encouragement.

6. Do you have any advice for other members going through this programs?

The ACHSI assessment, particularly for achieving Centre of Excellence (COE) status, requires a lot of effort, collaboration, and commitment as a team. It underscores the importance of continuous self-assessment and gap analysis to ensure ongoing compliance and improvement. It’s important to involve all staff members in this journey as everyone's contribution is invaluable.

7. What does international accreditation mean to you and your organisation?

Accreditation is one of Mouwasat Medical Services Strategic pillars, aligning with our belief that this fosters a unified process with full compliance to quality and patient safety. We are committed to more than twenty accreditation bodies, and we have more than ninety-five accredited departments and services.
